IICA will represent Latin America and the Caribbean at the major global event on the bioeconomy
San Jose, 20 October 2020 (IICA). The Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) will represent Latin America and the Caribbean at the Global Bioeconomy Summit 2020, the main global event on the bioeconomy, which will take place from 16 to 20 November.
The Global Bioeconomy Summit (GBS) is an biennial international conference that has become the leading forum to globally review and discuss emerging bioeconomy opportunities and challenges and to create a vision for the future development of a sustainable bioeconomy among key actors, such as governments, the science and innovation community, companies and civil society.
As a participant and partner in the event, IICA will bring to the forum its experience in public policy and bioeconomy business in the region, with a view to positioning Latin America and the Caribbean as a pioneer and leader in the global bioeconomy.
Hugo Chavarría, Manager of IICA’s Bioeconomy and Production Development Program, said that, “We are going to promote the use of lessons and best practices learned from other countries to drive the potential of Latin America and the Caribbean to make the bioeconomy the pivotal force for positioning the region within the new context”.
The summit establishes a close link between bioeconomy policy, global sustainable development and climate agendas. The Summit was originally established by the Bioeconomy Council of the Federal Government of Germany in 2015.
