Argentine Ministry of Science and IICA launch a call for bioeconomy projects in technologies applied to agriculture from researchers in the Americas
Buenos Aires, 11 September 2023 (IICA) – The Argentine Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MinCyT) and the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) have invited researchers and scientists from the Americas to submit bioeconomy research projects with regional projection.
Aimed at technologies applied to agriculture, the call for projects will be open until 6 October and will exclusively prioritize areas related to the development of biomaterials, waste biorefineries, bioenergies, bioinputs and bioventures.
The call is open to submissions from groups of researchers from public and private universities, research units and laboratories connected to higher education establishments, research bodies or companies from Argentina, in cooperation with counterparts identified in at least two countries of the Americas. The joint projects must contribute to scientific exchange, knowledge management, skills building and positioning scientific innovations from the hemisphere, among other things.
The initiative is part of the scientific-technological cooperation efforts between the MinCyT and IICA and aims to strengthen collaboration among partners in the region. Finance for selected projects will have a duration of two years from the start of execution.
Proposals will be submitted for evaluation by experts from the MinCyT, IICA representatives in Argentina and the Institute’s Innovation and Bioeconomy program, considering the guidelines set out in this call for projects, scientific quality, the project’s relevance to the country’s social and economic development, and its applicability.
The MinCyT and IICA initiative will provide funding for travel expenses related to the project, publications, seminars, workshops and joint dissemination activities. Once the call has closed, applications will be evaluated jointly by the MinCyT and IICA from 7 October and results will be notified between 16 and 20 October. Project execution is expected to begin in January 2024.
As part of its work to promote collective action, IICA launched the Latin American Bioeconomy Network last July in Buenos Aires, with representatives from over 25 public and private academic institutions and regional and national cooperation bodies. This is a forum for debate, exchange and construction among leading figures of the regional bioeconomy, and was established during the 27th Annual Conference of the International Consortium on Applied Bioeconomy Research (ICABR), co-organized by the Argentine government, the ICABR and IICA.
