Doha Round or Doha Develpment
Agenda
The issues of trade and negotiations as they relate to
agricultural products require ongoing follow-up and are a priority for IICA in
its capacity as a specialized organization in agriculture of the Inter-American
System.
Since the GATT Uruguay Round, at which time the subject of agriculture
was included in the negotiations and an agreement was established regulating
international trade in agricultural products within the framework of the World
Trade Organization (WTO), the Institute has tailored its cooperation activities
to the new realities stemming from these negotiations for the agricultural
sector. In so doing it has studied the political consequences they have
for the agrifood sector.
With the launch of a new WTO Round of multilateral trade negotiations
in , in November of 2003, known as the Doha Development Agenda, the topic has
taken on a new dimension and has become a priority for IICA. This is
consistent with out commitment to support the competitive and sustainable
development of agriculture and the rural milieu.
This section of the IICA Home Page is intended for private- and public-sector
agrifood specialists who are directly or indirectly involved in the multilateral
negotiations carried out in the framework of the Doha Round.
