São Paulo, 4 Septembre 2019 - Fostering sustainable farming is a top priority for those who are engaged in work related to agriculture. With the aim of supporting farmers and all other persons who carry out their daily work on farms, Bayer recently launched an online training program focused on good agricultural practices. The BayG.A.P. online training program, which was developed together with GlobalG.A.P. and is being offered in collaboration with the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA), is now available to all Brazilian producers.
The training modules are available online in the form of videos with practical content; as a result, rural producers and workers are able to update their knowledge without having to leave their homes. “The in-person modality is also available to groups of producers, via a three-day training program. However, the online modality makes the information much more accessible, by reaching small and medium-scale farmers,” noted Cristiane Lourenço, Food Chain Relations Manager for Latin America.
The virtual training program will cover a variety of topics, including integrated pest management, safe use of crop protection products, the importance of pollinator safety and traceability.
“BayG.A.P. is a powerful training tool geared toward farmers’ development and related to good agricultural practices for the production of safe food,” explained Christian Fischer, Manager of International Technical Cooperation Projects and Focal Point for Projects in the Southern Region at the IICA Delegation in Brazil.
In addition to providing a great deal of knowledge for daily use, the training program also assists in preparing farmers who wish to obtain important international certifications, such as GlobalG.A.P., which is a prerequisite for exporting to many markets. Furthermore, the training program addresses the issue of traceability, which Brazil established in August as a requirement for producers of fresh fruits and vegetables. For this reason, BayG.A.P. in Brazil is supported by the Brazilian Supermarket Association (ABRAS).
“Through this agreement, ABRAS takes on the responsibility of promoting training for, and participation of producers. Our objective is to guarantee the traceability of all fruits and vegetables, from the production phase to the logistical and distribution phases, before they reach the final Brazilian consumer. We believe that these initiatives play a crucial role in ensuring that Brazilians have healthy, safe food on their tables,” explained Márcio Milan, Superintendent of ABRAS.
BayG.A.P. is a training program that supports farmers and the entire food chain. By implementing good agricultural practices, farmers are able to meet global requirements, which in turn, improves their access to other markets.
