THE NORTHERN REGION
The Northern Region of IICA includes its offices in , and the . Additionally, the Northern Region, and more specifically the United States, is headquarters to two units with hemispheric projections charged to serve all of the member countries of IICA, these are: the Trade and Agribusiness Office based in and the Directorate of Strategic Partnerships (DSP) functioning from the Washington, DC, Office. Finally, managed through the Northern Region because of its association to the DSP is the Permanent Office for Europe (POE).
The Northern Region strategic priorities reflect the agricultural production, trade and related issues that are priority for the three member countries. As such, IICA has defined its priorities for the Northern Region during 2009-2010 as:
§ Strengthen and Support Regional Strategies and Mechanisms.
§ Establish Mechanism to Share Information on the State of Agriculture and Rural Life in the Region.
§ Strengthen Regional Agricultural Trade Emphasizing SPS and Food Safety and Biotechnology/Biosafety, among other themes.
§ Strengthen the Capacity of Agricultural SME to Access Markets and Promote Trade.
§ Support Hemispheric Initiatives at the Regional Level.
