The overall purpose is to build capacities of students, faculty, researchers, and senior professionals in both BERKELEY and IICA to better the lives of rural peoples throughout the Americas.

The areas of cooperation include:

2.    Identification of joint research topics and initiatives to promote:
· trade and the competitiveness of agricultural and livestock agribusiness;
· the strengthening of rural communities, including human health and education;
· the promotion of agricultural health and food safety;
· the promotion of sustainable management of natural resources and the environment;
· the promotion of the incorporation of technology and innovation for the modernization of agriculture and the rural development;  

3.  Exchange of staff between IICA and BERKELEY in pursuit of the above training and research objectives.
