IICA and the International Food and Information Council (IFIC) have similar objectives and interests. Recognizing this, joint efforts of IFIC and IICA can better contribute to the modernization of the rural sector, the promotion of food security, stakeholders’ understanding of key food safety, nutrition and health issues, the development of a sustainable agricultural sector and the enhancement of rural life in the western hemisphere than could otherwise be achieved by separate and independent actions of each other.

Areas of mutual concern for IICA and IFIC include:
-  Repositioning of agriculture and rural life in the national agendas of the Member States; 
-  Promoting science-based understanding and effective communication that help support commerce and competitiveness   
   in agribusiness;
-  Promotion of agricultural health and food safety;
-  Promotion of the biotechnology and biosafety; and,
-  Strengthening of rural communities.
