The IICA office supports the efforts of the country to promote the competitiveness and integration of agri-food chains, agricultural trade and sensitizing the sector about free trade areas and trade agreements.

 Awarding Youth in Agribusiness

 

 

 

 

 

The Institute on the request of the MoAF developed a three year project for the modernization of the local Marine Fisheries and Greenhouse subsectors. The project received CAD$4.5 million in funding from the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) and an estimated CAN$1.5 million from the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries.(2008-2011)

The Farmer to Farmer project, which brought 65 overseas volunteers in the past three years to train local organizations in the agricultural sector ended in September 2008. Twelve local organizations benefited from the knowledge and technology transfer the programme facilitated and have reported improvements in several areas of their operations. (2004-2008)

The Youth in Agri-business Award, which recognizes entrepreneurship, innovation and employment among youth engaged in agriculture, was this year expanded from one award to three.

 In response to the unavailability of market intelligence on the Greenhouse sector, enhancement work was conducted on the greenhouse production database. This tool was created through the assistance of IICA. (annually)
