History of the Saint Lucia Office

The IICA Office in Saint Lucia was opened on June 1, 1983, some 18 months after depositing the instrument of ratification of the new Convention on IICA.

Technical cooperation activities by IICA Office in Saint Lucia have been in the areas of agricultural health and food safety, micro enterprise development for youth and women, technology, generation, transfer and natural resources management, support to diversification in agriculture, supporting the development of fruit crops, and agricultural sector policy and planning, farmer organization and agro tourism.  These activities are carried out primarily in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF).

 Significant Dates

• December 9, 1981: Signed instruments of ratification of the Convention of IICA. 

• May 24, 1983: Basic country agreement between IICA and the Government of  Saint Lucia signed.

• June 1, 1983: IICA Office in Saint Lucia opened.
