Director General of IICA asks of the OAS a commitment to the objectives of agricultural development

Today, the Director General of the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA), Victor M. Villalobos , asked of the Permanent Council of the Organization of American States (OAS) a commitment to the objectives of agricultural and rural development.

He told the members of the Council that “responsibility for the development of agriculture does not rest solely with the ministries of agriculture.”

OAS Permanent Council applauds IICA’s efforts

The Permanent Council of the Organization of American States (OAS) applauded the work of the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) shortly after the Director General, Victor M. Villalobos, presented the Institute’s 2009 Annual Report.

The Ambassador of Chile, Pedro Oyarce Yuraszeck, reiterated his country’s political support for the work of the Institute “Your remarks reveal the effectiveness of the Institute’s efforts in specialized areas and its support for the consolidation of a new institutional framework. Rural life, rather than being the past, is the present and future of our peoples,” he said.
