Monitoring the WTO Committee on Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures

The Committee on Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures of the World Trade Organization (WTO SPS Committee) held its forty-seventh regular meeting from 17-18 March 2010, in Geneva, Switzerland, preceded by an informal meeting on the third review of the operation and implementation of the SPS agreement. Nearly 50% of the countries of the Americas attended this meeting, playing an active part in the discussions and debates.

The important topics for this meeting were members’ trade concerns, the approval of the (third) review of the operation and implementation of the SPS agreement, and the concerns raised in relation to private sector standards.
