nderstanding the opportunities and challenges for agriculture in today’s world and events that are taking place in this area is of fundamental importance to the success of leaders in the agricultural sectors of each country in our Hemisphere. With this in mind and in a continued effort to support our leaders and promote their development, our Institute has launched an “IICA Leadership Forum”.
The Director General of the Institute, Chelston W. D. Brathwaite, explains that this two-day program is designed for newly-appointed Ministers of Agriculture and Senior Executives of the sector who wish to have an up-to-date view of “Agriculture and Rural Life in the 21st Century”. The program will provide information on: - The role of agriculture and agribusiness in economic development
. - The challenges and opportunities for agriculture in the 21st Century.
| - IICA and its role in agriculture and rural development in the Hemisphere.
- The role of the Minister of Agriculture as a member of the Ministerial process within the framework of the Summit of the Americas process.
- The bases for the establishment of a new agenda for cooperation between IICA and its Member States.
The program, according to the Director General of IICA, is not designed to define steps to be taken in a new management or leadership position. It is designed rather to serve as a forum that stimulates reflection on an increasingly more integrated world where intense inter-relationships among countries make it difficult to move forward with the development and implementation of national policies without taking the world context and what is happening there into consideration.
